The Artist
In the work of Sandra Lehnis, a quiet but deliberate process unfolds: reduction to the essential. Born in Switzerland and based in Mallorca, the painter, draftswoman and printmaker approaches her subjects not by adding, but by leaving out — until only what matters remains. Her work has been exhibited internationally.
Nature and light are the quiet starting points of her non-figurative compositions, which Lehnis realizes primarily in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and paper. Her engagement with Agnes Martin's radical reduction revealed a kindred sensibility — giving rise to series such as Writings | Schriften and Logos, in which lines and dots become a language of their own: an homage to the order and rhythm of nature.
This is a painting that has no wish to be loud. Lehnis creates spaces of stillness within a world that rarely pauses — images as a counterpoint to the noise of everyday life, an invitation to arrive within oneself.
